1936 – 2016
MONMOUTH — Linwood K. Oakes Sr., “Oaksie”, 79, died Friday afternoon, May 6 surrounded by his loving family at his home in Monmouth.
He was born May 24, 1936 in Bradley, the son of Clarence and Ruby Niles Oakes. Linwood graduated from Old Town High School in 1954. On Sept. 4, 1965 in Bangor, he married Marilyn Given.
He worked for the State of Maine, Department of Health and Human Services for 35 years, retiring in 2008: He worked as a counselor for alcohol and drug abuse prevention. Linwood enjoyed NASCAR, golfing and playing his guitar for relaxation. He was a 50-year member of AA.
Linwood is survived by his wife, Marilyn Oakes of Monmouth; his daughter, Belinda Esancy and John of Augusta; three sons, David Oakes of Richmond, Kenneth Oakes and his wife, Jamie, of Greene and Linwood Oakes Jr. and his wife, Dorinda, of Kentucky; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; and a son, Greg Oakes.
