1937 – 2016
AUBURN — Richard Lawrence Marston, a resident of Auburn, passed away at the Hospice House on Wednesday, May 4.
Dick was born on June 19, 1937 in Readfield, the son of Evan and Laura (Small) Marston. He is a graduate of Edward Little High School and the University of Maine, Orono, and served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1959 to 1962. On Sept. 29, 1962, he married the former Janice Cronk.
Dick began his work life as a teacher and high school principal and moved on to a career managing several small businesses. Most recently, Dick purchased Infab, Inc. in Lewiston in 2003 and served as treasurer until his retirement in 2013. He enjoyed problem solving and innovating: for example, he developed, through time studies, pricing matrices for the products manufactured by Infab, which are still in use today.
Dick’s many interests included sailing, tennis. hunting, fishing, kayaking and music of all kinds, especially jazz. He enjoyed his years playing in the steel drum band Tinpanic. The Taylor Pond Yacht Club was an important part of Dick’s life. He was a longtime member and served as commodore and in many other capacities. He was also a member of the board of the Taylor Pond Association.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; his son, Daniel Marston of Eliot; his son, Matthew Marston, daughter-in-law, Sophia Kolehmainen and grandson, Oliver Richard Marston, all of Somerville, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.
Dick was predeceased by his parents; infant son, Michael; brothers, Harold, Douglas and Robert Marston; and sister, Marion MacDonald.
