1916 – 2016

SOUTH PARIS — Leona Emily (Paine) Record of Oxford passed away Sunday, May 8, at the age of 99.

Leona was born in East Oxford to Frank and Eva Paine on Oct. 27, 1916. She was a loving sister to her five younger siblings and was someone her mother could always depend on to help care for the family. She attended the one-room schoolhouse in East Oxford and briefly attended Oxford High School.

At the age of 16, she married Howard Record, and became the mother of seven children, who were her pride and joy. After raising her children, she worked at Robinson Manufacturing in the finishing room for several years before retiring. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1949, serving in many different capacities.

Leona’s greatest joy was her family. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as her extended family of siblings, nieces and nephews. She was known for her exceptional cooking, beautiful poetry and the innate ability to recall every family members’ birthday — all 122 of her descendents and their spouses!

She had a love of genealogy and spent many hours extensively researching her family history. She also had a love of music and enjoyed going to dances. She was known for her beautiful singing, as well as playing the piano and harmonica. She was a kind and gentle soul and was loved by all who knew her.
