RUMFORD — Ronald L. Chartier, 84, died Monday, May 9, at Rumford Hospital. He was a resident of Rumford.
Born in Londonderry, Vt., on April 18, 1932, he was a son of Lionel and Beatrice (Bendig) Chartier. He was a graduate of Leland & Gray High School in Townshend, Vt., and Albany Business College in Albany, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a corporal from 1953 to 1955. He was chief financial officer for Rumford Hospital for 31 years.
Ronald loved antiquing, yard sales, rock hounding, hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, traveling and researching information about the Civil War.
He was married in Bellows Falls, Vt., on March 25, 1955, to Pauline E. Perkins, who died in Peru on July 10, 2006.
Survivors include two daughters, Lori Chartier of Dixfield and Kathryn Rillo and her husband, Jerry, of Candor, N.C.; two sons, Sheldon Chartier and his spouse, Ted Kittelson, of Chicago, Ill., and Jason Chartier of Dixfield; five grandchildren, John Rillo, Paul Rillo and his wife, Stacey, Cameron Chartier, Kaitlyn Chartier and Courtney Rillo; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Williams of South Londonderry, Vt.; and a brother, Arthur Chartier and his wife, Annie, of Mexico.
He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline; a grandson, David Rillo; and a brother, Marvin.
