FARMINGTON — Regional School Unit 9 directors unanimously approved a policy Tuesday to allow parents or guardians to administer medical marijuana on school property to students with medical documentation.
The Medical Marijuana in Schools policy passed the second and final reading without discussion. The policy complies with a state law that went into effect last year.
Under the policy, a parent or guardian would administer the medical marijuana in a nonsmokeable form to the student in a designated area. The person administrating it must:
* Provide documentation that he or she is the primary caregiver for the student;
* Provide a copy of the student’s current written certification from a medical provider;
* Provide documentation that the student needs to have the drug administered during school hours; and
* Complete the school form.
The medical marijuana may only be possessed by the primary caregiver and only for the purpose of administering it to the student at school.
