PARIS — The Oxford Hills Vikings girls’ varsity lacrosse team suffered a tough defeat at the hands of the Lewiston Blue Devils on Saturday, May 7, by a margin of 14-5.

While the lady Vikings battled hard all game long, Lewiston’s quick speed was just too much to overcome.

Lewiston struck fast and often to begin the game, as they scored three times in the first six minutes to give themselves an early 3-0 lead.

Viking Sydney Jackson found the back of the net at the 17:48 mark of the first half to make it 3-1, Blue Devil lead.

Just 28 seconds later, Lewiston responded with a goal to regain the three-point lead, 4-1.

At the 12:14 mark of the first half, Oxford Hills’ Hannah Hartnett delivered a strong outside shot past the Blue Devil goalie to get the Vikings back within two goals.

After a scoreless five minutes, Lewiston used its speed to burst down the field twice in two minutes and make their lead 6-2.

Hartnett scored her second goal of the game at the 2:49 mark to close the gap to 6-3 for Oxford Hills.

Lewiston scored again with just 28 seconds left in the half to go into the break with a 7-3 lead.

The Blue Devils came out of the halftime break just as fast as they started the game with three more goals in four minutes and a 10-3 lead.

The Vikings responded quickly as Haley Wakefield picked up a loose ball and took it the rest of the way for a goal, making the score 10-4, Blue Devils.

Oxford Hills’ Ally Hanley made the score 10-5 with a precise shot to the net at the 16:32 mark of the second half.

This was it for the Vikings as the Blue Devils scored the last four goals of the game for the 14-5 final score and the Lewiston win.
