PARIS — The Oxford Hills Middle School lacrosse club boys’ team took to the Gouin Field on Wednesday, May 4, for its first-ever home game and came away with a 13-4 victory over the Mt. Ararat Eagles.

The Eagles struck first with two straight goals in the first six minutes of the game for a quick 2-0 lead.

Oxford Hills answered with authority, with Gavin Hamm, Emmett Grover and Tommy Bancroft all hitting shots for goals in the remainder of the quarter, giving the Vikings a 3-2 lead at the end of the first.

The Viking offense continued to excel and dominated the second quarter. Hamm, Grover and Bancroft all scored for a second time and Max Godomsky added the fourth Viking goal of the quarter.

Oxford Hills’ strong defense shut down the Eagles completely in quarter two and the Vikings went into halftime with a commanding 7-2 lead.

Mt. Ararat came out of the break looking strong by putting their best pressure of the game on the Oxford Hills defense. However, the defense was game and allowed just one Eagle goal at the 7:52 mark of quarter three during the attack.

Oxford Hills took back over on offense and looked more seasoned than a first year team as both Bancroft and Grover would find the net two more times each in the third and give the Vikings a 11-3 lead with one quarter left to play.

Bancroft found the net again at the beginning of the fourth quarter for his fifth goal of the game.

Mt. Ararat responded by putting another strong attack on Viking defense. Oxford Hills’ goalie Boden Dock would make multiple saves before the Eagles snuck in their fourth and final goal of the game with three minutes left in the game.

Oxford Hills’ Hamm added in one more score with 1:10 left to make the final score 13-4, Vikings.

Bancroft led the Viking offensive onslaught with five goals, Grover had four, Hamm had two and Godomsky finished with one of his own.

Before the game the team thanked Marjorie Medd, who with her husband, Dr. William Medd, contributed $5,000 to the OHMS Lax Club to help get the program started this spring.
