SABATTUS — The Dominican Sisters gathered April 22 to 24 for the first session of their provincial chapter where sisters from Maine, Arizona and New York elected their leadership team for a four-year term.
The chapter elected Sister Therese Demers as provincial prioress. Demers is a chaplain at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Sisters Monique Belanger and Mary Jude were elected provincial councilors. Belanger is a church musician for the Prince of Peace Catholic Parish in Lewiston. Jude lives in Staten Island, N.Y., where she is a teacher at St. Rita’s School.
Sister Monica Dubois, who ministers at St. Anne Mission on the Navajo Reservation in Klagetoh, Ariz., was appointed provincial treasurer.
The Dominican Sisters of the Roman Congregation are part of an international congregation. They have been in Lewiston since 1904. The four sisters on the leadership team grew up in Lewiston and graduated from St. Dominic High School when the Dominicans staffed the school.
