GRAY — A public forum on nearly $7 million in bonds for SAD 15 schools and athletic facilities will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at Gray-New Gloucester High School, 10 Libby Hill Road.
Residents of Gray and New Gloucester will vote on the proposals June 14.
The first bond calls for $3.10 million to:
* Add six classrooms to the middle school for $1,845,000;
* Renovate the middle school entry portico for $145,000;
* Update 40-year-old science labs at the high school for $514,000;
* Update the dirt play area at the Dunn Elementary School in Gray for $28,500;
* Update the parking lot/drainage at Memorial School in New Gloucester for $86,500;
* Update the high school lobby/collaborative space for $30,000; and
* Upgrade the middle school parking lot/drainage for $453,000.
The second bond is for $3.85 million at the high school to:
* Construct practice and competition fields;
* Construct an eight-lane track to replace the current one;
* Construct walking trails for students, staff and residents for wellness; and
* Modernize concessions areas and restrooms.
There is one main competition field shared by four team sports, causing considerable damage from overuse. The track is at the end of its life and needs replacement.
Two years ago, SAD 15 proposed a bond to upgrade facilities, schools and athletic fields and it failed.
This year the bonds have been separated into athletic facilities and schools renovations. The effort coincides with the retirement of two other bonds.
