1936 – 2016

AUBURN — Raymond A. Gagne Sr., 79, of Homefield St. Lewiston, died Sunday, May 15 at The Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Biddeford on Aug. 1, 1936, a son of the late Armand and Cecile (Plamondon) Gagne. After school, Raymond proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was very proud of his service and his country. He later married his true love, the former Martine Daigle, on Sept. 4, 1965.

Ray was a general contractor for many years and was very happy to pass his knowledge to his three sons. He was a member of Holy Family Church, The Elks, past Exalted Ruler, Knights of Columbus, Council 10019, past Grand Knight and the Marine Corps League.

Ray was a very happy-go-lucky guy and had the greatest comebacks. He also was a very loving husband, father, Pepere, uncle and friend. He will be missed by so many. He enjoyed working and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Many memories were made at the family camps in Canton, Greene and, most recently, in Jackman.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Martine of Lewiston; his three sons, Raymond Gagne Jr. of Lewiston, Rodney “Todd” Gagne and his wife, Angie, of Greene, and Rob Gagne and his wife, Ann, of Scarborough; his daughter, Terry Jean Santiago and her husband, Eddie, of Pennsylvania; his two sisters, Rachel Painter and her companion, Bob Bouchey, of Limington, and Doris Tenneson and her husband, Tony, of S. Portland; his mother-in-law, Wida Jalbert of Lewiston; his five grandchildren, Katelyn, Raymond III, Madeline, Dottie Jo and Sabrina; seven great-grandchildren; his faithful dog, Penny; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

The family would like to send a very special thank you to the staff on ICU at St. Mary’s Hospital, Dr. Jeff Brown and Hospice House for the exceptional care given to Ray in his last days.
