WATERFORD — The Waterford Library held its annual meeting on May 10.

Librarian Heather Silva gave attendees a peek at the library’s future. She said it’s thriving and growing because of volunteers and patrons. She said the library’s goal is to become more of a community center.

The library applied to become a summer lunch provider for local students and intended on merging that program with a summer reading program, she said.

Although the library wasn’t selected as a provider, the summer reading program will continue on Thursdays from 11 a.m. to noon. Child care is available.

Current programming at the library includes “Book to Movie Night,” which looks at books as the basis for movies. Then the film is viewed.

There is also “Documentary and Discussion” night, where a documentary film is shown and then a discussion follows.

Minecraft players meet on Wednesday evenings along with an adult coloring night.

Last year the community garden was started, and better yields are expected this year, Silva said. A plant-your-own vegetables kit is being made available at the Sweden Food Pantry by the library because of a community grant.

Silva said in the future the library will include more floor space and meeting space that is more accessible to physically challenged patrons. Shelf space will expand to accommodate additional books.
