Memorial Day activities revised

RUMFORD — American Legion Post 24 has canceled the Memorial Day parade because of safety concerns with traffic re-routed around the Memorial Greens in Rumford and Mexico.

A Memorial Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30, at the Legion Post. A light lunch will be served following the ceremony.

School of Masonry open house

AVON — The Maine School of Masonry will hold an open house from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 27.

The open house will include a tour and offer information on the masonry program. Students who may be interested in masonry are encouraged to attend with their family members.

Applications will be available for anyone interested in attending the 2016-17 school year.

Projects completed by 2015-16 students will be on display.

The event is open to the public.

Plant, food sale May 28

INDUSTRY — The Shorey Chapel annual plant and food sale is set from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 28, at the church on Route 43.

There will be a variety of annuals, perennials and vegetable plants along with a variety of food.

Birds and Blooms walk

LOCKE MILLS — Mahoosuc Land Trust will host a spring walk, Birds and Blooms on Buck’s Ledge, at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28.

Emily Ecker and Lynne Zimmerman will team up to help hikers spy and hear the beauties of the season.

Hikers should meet at the Buck’s Ledge trailhead, 2.1 miles south of Howe Hill Road.

The trail’s difficulty is moderate and the pace will be gentle. Hikers should wear sturdy shoes and bring drinking water. Preregistration is encouraged, but not required.

Church sale for camp scholarships

WILTON — East Wilton Union Church will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at 1306 Main St. The rain date is June 4.

The sale will include “make your own price” items along with a food table.

Proceeds will benefit camp scholarships.

Norway parade schedule announced

NORWAY — The Norway Memorial Day parade is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, May 30, at the head of Main Street.

All local organizations interested in participating in the parade should assemble at 8:15 a.m. behind the Fare Share Co-op.

There will be a wreath-laying at the Civil War Memorial, as well as a Memorial Day ceremony complete with taps and a wreath-laying ceremony at the Norway Memorial Park by the American Legion Auxiliary Stone Smart Unit No. 82. The legion will offer refreshments.

In the event of rain, the parade will be replaced by a Memorial Day ceremony at the American Legion.
