FALMOUTH — The Cumberland County Extension Association has openings for individuals to serve on its board of directors.

The association is searching for members from the following municipalities: Baldwin, Bridgton, Gorham, Harrison, Scarborough, Sebago, Standish, Cape Elizabeth, South Portland and Westbrook.

Extension programs are run by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension and are designed to bring practical, research-based information from the University of Maine into the county to meet local needs.

In partnership with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension staff, each county extension association formulates and helps secure annual funding from the county government by working with the county commissioners and Budget Advisory Committee.

Extension associations advise faculty with important and need-based programming ideas, are aware of extension programming and help to promote extension programming in their respective circles, community and municipality.

The association meets at 6 p.m. in Falmouth once per month on the third or fourth Wednesday.

Those nominated for a seat will be invited to the board meeting Aug. 26 before being voted in at the annual meeting on Sept. 7.

The deadline for applications is Aug. 1.
