JAY — A local man is accused of sexually abusing two girls under the age of 12.
Jay Detective Michael Mejia launched an investigation last week after receiving information from New York State Police about two girls who said they were abused in December 2015 in Jay, Mejia said.
Steven M. Dumeny, 33, of Jay was interviewed at the Jay Police Department. He was arrested Thursday night on a warrant charging a felony count of unlawful sexual contact and two misdemeanor counts of unlawful sexual touching, Mejia said.
The unlawful sexual contact charge carries a penalty of up to10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
New York State Police assisted in the investigation.
Dumeny remained at the Franklin County jail in Farmington Friday evening, a corrections officer said.
