Summer basket raffle at Mexico Public Library
MEXICO — The Mexico Public Library is currently hosting a summer basket raffle.
Baskets are on display at the library and include: hair products from House of Beauty; car wash items from Advance Auto Parts; “Story Basket” with a variety of books and a unique book/CD combo; “Father’s Day” with fishing and fatherly items; “Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice” with newborn items for girls; “Sweet and Salty” with gourmet snacks; “Snips, Snails, and Puppy Dog Tails” with infant items for boys; “Red, White, and Blue” with a variety of themed household items; “Cats and Dogs” with themed gifts and treats; “Feathered Friends” with a bird book and various bird foods; “Pool Fun” with a variety of pool toys; “All About Maine” with a selection of Maine-themed goods; “Camping” with a collection of camping gear; and “Movie Night” with a DVD, popcorn and candy.
Tickets cost $1 for one, $2 for three, or $5 for seven. They are available at the library.
Winners will be drawn on June 15 and contacted by phone.
Historical Society yard sale
FARMINGTON — The Farmington Historical Society will hold a spring yard sale from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 28, at the Octagon House, 126 High St.
Furniture, household goods, attic treasures, books and other items will be for sale.
VFW Post 9787 to meet
PARIS — The Floyd A. Harlow Jr. VFW Post 9787 will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at 58 East Main St.
Lithuanian Club meeting
RUMFORD — The Lithuanian Heritage Club will host its monthly meeting at noon on Wednesday, June 1, at Sam’s Italian Restaurant on Route 2.
Historian to talk Greenwood at Historical Society
GREENWOOD — Herb Adams, Maine historian and politician who teaches at Southern Maine Community College, will present a program on Addison Verrill at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at the Town Hall.
Verrill wrote a series of articles about Greenwood in the Norway Democrat in the 1840s and ’50s.
The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Greenwood Historical Society. There will be an update on the Greenwood bicentennial book project.
Mexico library summer hours
MEXICO — The Mexico Public Library is shifting to summer hours beginning June 1.
The library will be closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday through Aug. 31.
The library will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays, and from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
There is no regularly scheduled story time, but a variety of hands-on activities have been planned for most Wednesdays throughout the summer as part of the children’s summer reading program. These activities include sand art, sidewalk art, making sun catchers and “rocket science.”
In addition, the library will host a teen reading program and an adult reading program between June 24 and Aug. 19.
