LEWISTON — Carmen L. Goupil, 87, of Lewiston died early Tuesday morning, May 24, at d’Youville Pavilion, with her loving family by her side, following a long illness.
She was born in Lewiston on Sept. 11, 1928, the daughter of the late Omer and Armosa (Dubois) Mathieu and had been a resident of this community all of her life. She had married Camillien Goupil on Nov. 22, 1947; he died Nov. 24, 1984.
She was a member of the Holy Cross Senior Citizens, Lewiston Senior Citizens and a parishioner of Holy Cross Church.
Carmen enjoyed crocheting, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing beano and most of all loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Claire Vaillancourt and her husband, Norman, of Lewiston, and Doris Belanger of Lewiston; six sons, George Goupil and his wife, Judy, of Oxford, Robert Goupil and his wife, Kathleen, of Plainville, Conn., Roger Goupil and his wife, Gloria, of Windsor, Vt., Paul Goupil of Lewiston, Gerard Goupil and his wife, Cathy, of Florida, and Roland Goupil and his wife, Ruby, of Greene; one sister, Pauline Bernier and her husband, Victor, of Florida; three brothers, Marcel Mathieu and his wife, Irene, of Arizona, Maurice Mathieu of Fall River, Mass. and Rene Mathieu and his wife, Pauline, of Fayette; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Cecile Mercier and Irene Gauthier; and by three brothers, Armand, Jean Paul and Gerard Mathieu.
