1927 – 2016
SOUTH PORTLAND — On the morning of Saturday, May 21, Evelyn passed away of natural causes at South Portland Nursing Home.
Evelyn was born March 25, 1927, in Ipswich, Mass. She was the firstborn to Vera (Morong) and Chester Fowler.
At the age of 5, her family moved to South Portland. Evelyn was educated in the South Portland school system. On Oct. 18, 1952, she married Chuck Neureuther. They moved to Lisbon Falls in 1953.
While raising a family, she was employed at Roberts Pharmacy and later at Dunton’s Department Store in Lisbon Falls. After her children were raised, she worked full time at Bowdoin College until her retirement in 1989.
Evelyn, along with her sister and their husbands, spent many summers at Kezar Lake in Center Lovell and later at camp in Chatham, N.H. The foursome enjoyed trips to Florida and Arizona. Beginning in 2001, Evelyn and Chuck spent the next decade wintering in Englewood, Fla.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years; her daughter, Beverly Tufts (Dennis); sons, Lee (Donna), Chuck (Michael) and Keith (Mona); nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Vera; brothers, Wallace, William and Robert; and son-in-law, Richard Tufts.
The family extends a heartfelt thank-you to the staff of South Portland Nursing Home and her close friend, Jackie Miller of South Portland.
