RUMFORD — Gavin Arsenault put in a career-best performance on Wednesday, hurling a 13-strikeout no-hitter as Dirigo rolled to a 3-0 baseball win over Mountain Valley. 

Arsenault helped his own cause with two hits, two runs scored and three stolen bases for the Cougars (9-6). The veteran pitched had two strikeouts in all but one frame. Riley Robinson also contributed with an RBI triple. 

Jacob Beauchesne, Ethan Laubuaskas and Garrett Garbarini split time on the mound for Mountain Valley (5-10), with Beauchesne suffering the loss. 

Hampden 9, Lewiston 6

LEWISTON — Alex Mckenney ignited a four-run rally in the sixth inning to propel Hampden to a 9-6 victory over Lewiston in Class A South baseball action Wednesday. 

Mckenney led Hampden (7-8) with two hits and two RBIs, including a timely double in that key sixth frame. William Campbell belted out three hits, while Andrew Gendreau had two hits.

Hunter Landry and Gordon Beckwith led the Blue Devils (4-11) with two hits each.

Edward Little 4, Mt. Ararat 1

AUBURN — Damien St. Pierre went the distance aand allowed only one unearned run in Edward Little’s Red Eddies 4-1 victory over the Mt. Ararat Eagles in a KVAC baseball action.

He struck out eight and only allowed three hits in seven innings.

Mt. Ararat starter Garrett Moody was solid in his own right, going the distance after the Red Eddies left 11 men on base.

EL (14-1) scored a single run in the second, third, fourth and sixth.

Tyler Blanchard had three hits, including a double, while Maxx Bell had a pair of hits, including a double. Grant Hartley had a double for EL.

Harper Moutal had a pair of hits for the Eagles (7-8).

Yarmouth 9, Poland 1

POLAND — Conor O’Donnell went 3-for-5 as Yarmouth coasted to a 9-1 victory over Poland in baseball action Wednesday afternoon.

The Yachtsmen (8-5) added to an already comfortable three-run lead with five runs in the seventh inning.

The pitcher, Ben Bernier, had two of the Knights’ (2-13) three hits with a double and a single. Jake Wiseman also produced a double for Poland.

Fryeburg 2, Gray-New Gloucester 1

GRAY —  Scott Parker ripped an RBI single in the sixth inning to plate Matt Fuller and give Fryeburg a 2-1 baseball victory over Gray-New Gloucester. 

Parker and Matt Boucher led the Indians (3-11) with two hits apiece, while Hunter Day scattered three hits in seven inning of work to earn the win. 

John Villanueva went the distance for the Patriots (3-11).  

Leavitt 1, Gardiner 0 (9 inn.)

TURNER — Zac Dymond ripped a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to plate John Rousseau and give Leavitt a hard-earned 1-0 win over Gardiner on Wednesday.

Brian Hewitt started out on the mound for the Hornets, scattering three hits and striking out 10 in seven scoreless frames. Chad Morin picked up the win working in relief. 

Nick Berube kept the Hornets at bay, throwing seven innings of shutout baseball for the Tigers. 

Softball

Spruce Mountain 6, Maranacook 4

JAY — Ales Bessey scattered five hits and helped her own cause at the plate as Spruce Mountain hustled to a 6-4  victory over Maranacook in MVC softball action Wednesday. 

Bessey led the Phoenix (6-9) with three hits, while Julie Doiron, Morgan Dalton and Kaylee Leclerc each belted out two hits.

Catcher Erin Bonenfant led the struggling Black Bears (3-11) with two hits, while Paige Costa suffered the loss. 

Leavitt 5, Gardiner 2

TURNER — Abby Robertson scattered three hits and helped her own cause with an RBI triple in the fifth frame as Leavitt hustled to a 5-2 victory over Gardiner.

Caitlin DeBlois led the mighty Hornets (8-6) with a solo home run in the third, while Kassie Murch and Cassie Bunker each belted RBI doubles.

Brianna Brochu led the Tigers (7-7) with two hits, while Jillian Bisson was tagged with the loss.  

Sacopee Valley 7, Poland 1

POLAND — Juniro Madison Day belted a double and a single to lead Sacopee Valley to a 7-1 victory over Poland in softball action Wednesday afternoon.

The Hawks scored five runs in the first two innings. Haiden Sawyer also contributed a pair of hits for Sacopee Valley.

Junior pitcher McKenzie Cormier pitched all sevens innings, while Grace Sanborn provided catching duties for Sacopee Valley.

Hampden Academy 8, Lewiston 4 

LEWISTON — Brooklyn Scott smashed a pair of home runs as Hampden Academy peeled off four runs in the ninth inning to secure an 8-4 triumph over Lewiston in softball action Wednesday afternoon.

The Broncos took advantage of four errors in the top of the ninth inning to convert a tie into a winning effort.

Megan Theriault recorded a single and a triple for the Blue Devils.

Madison 13, Oak Hill 0

MADISON — Kayla Bess and Madeline Wood tabulated three hits each as Madison bulldozed their way to a 13-0 victory over Oak Hill in softball action Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs put runs on the board each of their five innings at the plate.

Makayla Nadeau collected two of the Raiders four hits.

Edward Little 2, Mt. Ararat 1

AUBURN — Taylor Depot tripled in Emmy Lashua in the first inning, and then scored on an error, for the eventual game-winning tally as Edward Little edged Mt. Ararat 2-1 in softball action Wednesday afternoon.

Depot had a single, double and triple for the Red Eddies (11-4). Kylie Bureau contributed a single and a double on offense, while notching the mound win for Edward Little.

Nateleigh Ormsby scored on an RBI single by Alana Weaver for the Eagles (8-7).

Gray-New Gloucester 3, Fryeburg 2

GRAY — Skye Conley doubled in the tying run in the sixth inning and produced the walk off single in the eighth inning as Gray-New Gloucester toppled Fryeburg 3-2 in softball action Wednesday afternoon.

Center fielder MacKenzie Buzzell launched a solo home run for the Raiders (9-5) in the top of the sixth inning.

Emily Brewer had an RBI single in the sixth inning for the Patriots (10-4). Brewer scored on Conley’s stroke for the tying run.

Boys’ lacrosse

Edward Little 14, Oxford Hills 4

AUBURN — Ganan Mancini netted four goals and Isaac Cote bagged a hat trick as Edward Little overpowered Oxford Hills 14-4 in a boy’s lacrosse tilt Wednesday.

Mark Reyes also tallied three goals for the Red Eddies (5-5), while Matt Verrill scored twice. Single tallies by Eli McBride and Steve Sinclair completed the scoring.

Kelton Loper and Finnian Williamson led the Vikings (2-9) with two goals each, while Sam Rideout also tallied. Brandon Asselin (five) and Dakota Bousquet (two) combined to make seven saves for Edward Little, while Zach Rideout turned aside six shots between the posts for Oxford Hills.

Girl’s lacrosse

St. Dom’s 12, Cony 4

AUBURN — Caroline Gastonguay planted four goals as St. Dom’s sowed a 12-4 victory over Cony in girls’ lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon.

Rileigh Stebbins contributed three goals for the Saints, while Avery Lutrzykowski and Kristina Cornelio had a pair each. Madison Leslie turned in a solid defensive effort for St. Dom’s.

Goalie Abby Slonina had three saves.
