It would cost approximately $5,000 to mobilize in Lewiston on the Fourth of July all the military and naval forces of Maine, Adjutant General Geo. McL. Prosson has informed Mayor Brann of Lewiston. This item is now in the hands of a parade committee, which was appointed at a meeting of the joint city government and chamber of commerce committees.
50 years ago, 1966
The Exchange Hotel, which was gutted by a two-alarm fire last month, has been ordered to be torn down by Lewiston Building Inspector Charles A. Buteau. Lewiston Police were informed that part of the frame of the building had collapsed and an elderly gentleman narrowly escaped being struck by the falling debris. The order was issued shortly after the incident.

Dosithee Gosselin of Jay, who will be 94 in July, has been chosen as honorary marshal for Monday’s Memorial Day parade in Jay and Livermore Falls. A member and past commander of the American Legion, Gosselin served in the Army in World War I and is the oldest local living veteran of that war. In addition to holding many offices in the legion, he was instrumental in organizing legion baseball locally.
