AUBURN — Auburn Public Library has released its June teen programming.
Teen Anime Club: 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, Androscoggin Community Room. Teens ages 12 to 18 can drop in to talk about their favorite (or least favorite) manga, watch this week’s selection of anime, and try their hand at drawing their own characters. Snacks will be provided.
Friday @ the Movies: 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, June 3, Androscoggin Community Room. “Soul Surfer” tells the true story of teenage surfer Bethany Hamilton and how she overcomes her fears by returning to the water after losing her arm in a shark attack. This program is for teens ages 12 to 18 and includes a snack.
Gravity, Black Holes & Time Travel: 4 to 5 p.m. Monday, June 6, Androscoggin Community Room. As part of our NASA exhibit From Our Town to Outer Space, Bates College astronomy and physics professor Nicole Hastings returns for this demonstration and discussion. Attendees will use a gravity demonstration to learn about the science of gravity, black holes and how (or if) time travel is possible. This program is for teens ages 12 to 18.
Tweens in the Teen Space: noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 8. Tweens in grade six are invited to join the Teen Space on this final half-day Wednesday of the year. There will be crafts or board games available, or students can stop by to get a head start on their homework or hang out with their friends.
Gaming Hour: 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, Androscoggin Community Room. There will be video games and snacks. There is an Xbox 360 and Wii with a small collection of games. Teens are welcome to bring their favorites, but only those rated “T” and “E.” Program is for teens ages 12 to 18.
Safe Voices: 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 9, Teen Space. Julia from Safe Voices will visit to discuss relationships and work on projects. Program is for teens ages 12 to 18.
Maine Job Corps: 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, conference room. Jill Moody of the Maine Job Corps will explain how the program works and who is eligible.
Flashback Friday: 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, June 17, Teen Space. There will be some favorite childhood activities including Legos, Play-Doh, puzzles and Candyland. Also featured will be childhood favorite snacks. This program is for teens ages 12 to 18.
Teen Summer Reading Program Kickoff: 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, Androscoggin Community Room. This year’s theme is Get in the Game: READ! Angela Bancroft will present “My Spirit for Sport.” Bancroft is a three-time competitor at the Ironman World Championships. She will share her race history, challenges she overcame and lessons she learned. Teens can sign up for the reading program at this event or any time after by visiting the reference desk on the second floor. Program is for teens ages 12 to 18.
DIY Smoothies: 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, Androscoggin Community Room. Attendees will learn to make healthy, refreshing and cool smoothies as part of the Mind & Body Wellness theme. After looking at ingredients, attendees will form teams and make their own in a competition. Registration is required by calling 207-333-6640, ext. 4. Program is for teens ages 12 to 18.
Q+A with Outright L/A: 3 to 5 p.m. Monday and Thursday, June 27 and 30, conference room. The library has partnered with Outright L/A to offer Queers + Allies, a youth-driven educational program. There will be games, art projects, guest speakers and field trips. There will be an opportunity for an open and relaxed atmosphere. Program is open to teens ages 13 to 18, including recent graduates.
SAPARS Summer Movie Series: 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, Androscoggin Community Room. This summer movie series is hosted by Molly from the Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Services. This summer’s series will feature four movies dealing with various teen issues, including healthy relationships, peer pressure, safety and breaking stereotypes. The library will screen “The Duchess.” The movie is free and includes snacks.
Media Club: 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, CREATE! Media Lab. Teens can make trailers, podcasts and more. The library will post them on its website.
Journaling: 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 30, Teen Space. This program will take a look at journaling and why keeping a journal may be helpful toward living a healthy lifestyle. In this first workshop the library will provide journals, which participants will decorate. The group will also explore different styles of journaling and create a title page. The program is for teens ages 12 to 18.
