1923 – 2016

MECHANIC FALLS — Frederick H. “Fred” Gagne Sr., 93, of Mechanic Falls went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, May 25, from his earthly home in Mechanic Falls, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 4, 1923, in Mechanic Falls, a son of Alfred “Fred” and Mabel (McKay) Gagne. Fred attended local schools and as a young man was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

On March 16, 1946, he married Doris Strout and together they raised five children.

Fred worked the majority of his working career in local woolen mills as a loom fixer and weaver.

He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and working in the woods cutting his own firewood. Of the many things that he took joy in during his life, he especially enjoyed the construction of his home in Mechanic Falls, which he did himself.
