FARMINGTON — A local man was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with breaking into a local food pantry Wednesday, police Sgt. Michael Adcock said.
, 23, of 308 Fairbanks Road was taken into custody about 4 p.m. in Farmington Falls and booked at the Franklin County jail on charges of burglary and theft, Adcock said.
According to Farmington police, officer Justin Blais and University of Farmington police officer Adam Welch spotted a person walking on Fairbanks Road at about 5 a.m. Blais saw the man head toward the Care and Share Food Closet at 805 Fairbanks Road, found the rear door partly open and a person wearing a ski mask inside. The man saw Blais and fled into nearby woods.
During the investigation, police issued an arrest warrant for McArthur and a search warrant for his home, where they found food and clothing stolen from the food pantry, Adock said Thursday evening.
It was the second burglary at the pantry this week. In the early hours of Sunday, someone broke in and took hundreds of dollars worth of items, Adcock said.
Police are continuing their investigations into the break-ins, he said.
