TEMPLE — Two 17-year-old girls were injured Thursday when the car they were in hit a pothole, went airborne and landed hard on Intervale Road, Lt. David St. Laurent of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

Megan Letarte, 17, of New Sharon and Brianna McDonald, 17, of Farmington, were identified as passengers, according to an accident report. Both were hurt when they struck their heads, St. Laurent said.

The driver, 18-year-old Alyssa Nile of Farmington, was not hurt. She was charged her with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and failure to report an accident by the quickest means. Deputy Derrick Doucette also issued her summonses on charges of carrying a passenger beyond the restrictions of a license, imprudent speed and failing to maintain control of a vehicle.

A mother of one of the injured girls called 911 to report the crash, but deputies could not find the car for some time because it had been pushed into a driveway. Police got a break when Cpl. Kevin Hartley learned the name of one of the girls and St. Laurent located her at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

Nile had driven the girls to the hospital in another vehicle and left, St. Laurent said. She was found later and charged.

The 2006 Dodge car, owned by Melissa Letarte of New Sharon, received front-end damage, according to the accident report.
