I write in response to the Sun Journal story about the Department of Health and Human Services “cracking down” on EBT cheaters (May 19).

When EBT cards are automatically reissued because the original card was “lost or stolen,” why aren’t the original cards deactivated or voided, just like any other credit/debit card is when they are replaced? That would immediately stop the “trafficking” in EBT cards for cash/drugs.

I don’t think the credit card companies would be in business very long if they ran their businesses the same as the state runs the EBT system.
