NORTH CONWAY, N.H. — The nonprofit Mount Washington Observatory has opened up registration for its Summer Day Trips in partnership with the Mount Washington Auto Road.
Guests can board a van for an educational tour up to the Mount Washington summit, accompanied by a Mount Washington Observatory staff member. Once on the summit, there will be a tour of the famous mountaintop weather station, a trip to the summit tower (weather-permitting), an educational program presented by an observatory meteorologist and a visit to the Extreme Mount Washington museum, followed by lunch in the observatory’s living quarters. Upon the return to the base of the mountain, participants will have access to Great Glen Trails and may visit the Douglas A. Philbrook Red Barn Museum.
The program is being offered on select dates running June through September. Trips are scheduled to depart from the base of the Auto Road at 8 a.m. and return by 1:30 p.m. Space is limited to eight guests per trip. Tickets are $129 for members of the Mount Washington Observatory and $199 for nonmembers. Registration is available online.
In the summer months, the Mount Washington Observatory provides additional educational offerings, including workshops, a free Science in the Mountains lecture series and daily “Live from the Rockpile” call-ins to the summit observers from the Weather Discovery Center.
Guests can also explore the world of weather at the Mount Washington Observatory’s two museums — The Weather Discovery Center located in North Conway and Extreme Mount Washington located on the summit of Mount Washington in the Sherman Adams State Park building.
