INDUSTRY — The cause of a fire that destroyed a single-story home Tuesday morning on the Taylor Michael Road is undetermined because of the extent of damage, Fire Chief Kevin Gurney said.

The home, near the Starks town line off Industry Road, was owned by Anthony and Melissa Howard, Gurney said.

An investigator from the Office of the State Fire Marshal attempted to determine the cause but there was too much damage, Gurney said.

No one was home when the fire was reported at 7:41 a.m. Gurney believed a passerby reported the fire.

He called the Red Cross for support of the family, which includes elementary school children, he said.

Mutual aid from Farmington, New Sharon, Temple, New Vineyard, Starks, Anson and Madison helped the Industry Fire Department, he said. Water was hauled from nearby Clearwater Lake, he said.

A Red Cross team met with the homeowners Tuesday morning to ensure everyone had a place to sleep, food, clothing and other essentials, according to a statement from the Red Cross.

The Red Cross team plans to stay in contact with the family over the next several days.
