1960 – 2016

AUBURN — Daniel Roy Stevens went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 25, after a long battle with cancer. He died at the Hospice House, surrounded by loving family and friends.

Danny was born in Sacramento, Calif., on March 1, 1960, to George Stevens and Joyce Mathews (Stevens) of Auburn. He was a painter by trade and a poet by heart. He traveled the country and wore his heart on his sleeve. Danny was educated in Auburn schools and proudly served in the military.

Danny is survived by his three children, his daughter, Melissa May Stevens and her children, Angelina, Keenan and Izabella, of Lewiston, Rebecca Anna Freehilll and her son, Tyler, of Florida, and Joshua Daniel Caron and his son, Kaydien, of Sabattus; Anna (Stevens) Theriault, the mother of his daughters; and Rebecca Caron, the mother of his son. He is survived by his brothers, David Stevens and his wife, Jayne, of Auburn, and his children, Stephanie, Joe and Jennifer, and Michael Stevens, his wife, Lisa, and daughter, Madeline, of Monmouth; and uncle, Eugene Stevens of Lewiston; aunt, Margaret Stevens of Auburn. Danny is also survived by maternal aunts, Gert Mathews of Lewiston and Carol Mathews-Lasco of Auburn.

Danny is predeceased by uncles, Calvert Stevens of Portland, Ray Stevens of Portland, and Bradford Stevens of Auburn; aunts, Catherine, Sister Mary Francis of Portland, Ada Jordan of Portland, Libby Sylvester of Bingham, Rose Marie Coffin of Venice, Fla., and Elinor Rosell of Auburn; and his grandparents, Roy and Florence Stevens and Maryanne (Gaga) and Wallace Mathews.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Su McLaren, for her companionship; Buckey and Debbie Jewett of Minot for the six years of loving support they gave Danny while he re-acclimated to life in Maine; and Mark Sharp and David Cooms Sr. of Lewiston for their special care.
