Final meeting for retired educators
FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Retired Educators will hold its final spring meeting at 11 a.m. Monday, June 20, in the North Dining Hall at the University of Maine at Farmington.
Jim Logan, owner of the bookstore Twice Told Tales, will present a program based on his experiences with books.
Lunch will be a make-your-own sandwich buffet plus salad and dessert for $11. Reservations are required by Sunday, June 12.

Elks holding Flag Day ceremony
RUMFORD — Rumford Elks Lodge will hold a Flag Day ceremony for members and their guests at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, with a light luncheon to follow.
The regular meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. and is open to members.
Elks hosting member barbecue
RUMFORD — Rumford Elks Lodge will host a backyard barbecue for members and their guests from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 15.
Admission is $8.
Tech Petting Zoo in Wilton
WILTON — The Wilton Free Public Library will host a Tech Petting Zoo for those curious about e-readers and tablets and for those who want to embrace technology but aren’t sure where to start.
The petting zoo is an opportunity for hands-on experience with new tech gadgets.
The zoo will be at the library from Wednesday, June 15, to Wednesday, June 29.
Jared Leadbetter of the Maine State Library will be on hand from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, to lead a public information session on all things e-readers and tablets.

Cabbage Island trip open
HARRISON — The Harrison and Bridgton recreation departments are hosting a trip to Boothbay Harbor/Cabbage Island on Monday, Aug. 8.
Cost is $72 for Harrison and Bridgton residents or $82 for nonresidents. Cost includes bus, boat and meal. A $30 deposit is due upon registration to reserve a seat, and the remaining balance is due July 29. Deposit is nonrefundable after July 29.
Group will leave at 8 a.m. from the Harrison Town Office parking lot and return around 7 p.m.
Planned are a lighthouse/harbor tour and an authentic Maine lunch.

Golf fundraiser benefiting cancer center
LIVERMORE — Lady golfers are invited to play in a golf tournament on Tuesday, July 19, at Maple Lane Golf Course. Proceeds benefit patients at the Martha Webber Breast Cancer Center at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.
Registration is required, and ladies may register as teams of four or as individuals to be placed on a team. There will be team and individual prizes. A registration fee of $100 per team includes a catered lunch. Cart fees are $10 per rider.
There will be raffles during the day and a live auction of items donated by supporting businesses after lunch.

Jay Historical Society meets
JAY — The Jay Historical Society meeting was held May 19 at the archive building on Jay Hill.
Three employees of Polycor, the new granite operation in North Jay, were guests. Production Supervisor Troy Bonnevie, Project Manager Matthieu Forgot and Quarry Operator Jason Baldwin described the site, its buildings and the huge machinery used for cutting the granite with a slideshow presentation.
An open house for the public is expected in late June or early July.
Vendors sought for Founder’s Day
PARIS — The Hamlin Memorial Library and Museum is accepting craft vendor applications for the 38th annual Founder’s Day, scheduled for Saturday, July 16.
Spaces are 20-by-20 feet and cost $50.
