OTISFIELD — The Otisfield Historical Society will present a program on Great Oaks Camp, 1927-1985, at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 16, at 53 Bell Hill Road.
Organizers hope to attract a large numbers of those with vivid memories of their days at Great Oaks as campers, counselors and staff members.
The camp, founded by Joseph Becker and later directed by his son-in-law Richard Dryzga, was one of the town’s most successful summer youth camps. From its first season in 1927 until it closed in 1985, it attracted boys primarily from the New York-New Jersey area and provided summer employment for many residents.
The Historical Society has collected a large number of mementos from the camp – photographs, yearbooks, banners and medals – all of which will be on display for the evening.
All are welcome.
