JAY — The Spruce Mountain Area Robotics Team will host the SMART Robotics Summer Camp from Monday through Thursday, Aug. 22 to 25, at Spruce Mountain Middle School.
The camp runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and is for students entering grades four to eight next year.
Students will develop skills in designing, building and programming robots through a variety of projects. They will work in teams with high school SMART Team members as mentors.
All students will have access to EV3 robotics kits and iPads for programming and robot remote control. Also planned is a team competition where students will compete in an alliance against another group of robots. Alliance teams will need to work together to solve challenges that involve pre-programmed robot missions and missions where the students drive their robots using iPads.
The program will help students develop skills in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). It will also serve as preparation for students who want to participate in robotics competitions, such as LEGO League, in the future. Students attending Spruce Mountain Middle School planning to do LEGO League this year can get a start on their robot building and programming skills.
Space is limited and registration will close when the camp fills. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost is $50 and proceeds benefit SMART, Spruce Mountain’s robotics team.
