LISBON FALLS — George Surowoj, 62, of Huston Street, Lisbon Falls, died Tuesday, June 7.
He was born in Ingolstadt, Germany, on Feb. 5, 1954, the son of the late Zachar Surowoj and Martha Grün Schein. He was educated at Kensington High School in Buffalo, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict from 1972 to 1980.
He worked at VIP Parts, Tires and Service for 20 years and then Action Screen Printing for the past 10 years.
George enjoyed photography, old landmarks, the weather, current events and was always reading a newspaper, gardening, working with his hands, especially carpentry, music and most of all, spending time with his grandkids.
He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of animals, the unique nicknames he gave to each family member as well as close family friends, his generosity and kindness, his strong work ethic, his handyman skills and his famous grilled cheeseburgers.
He is survived by his partner of 29 years, Rebecca Sanders of Lisbon Falls; stepdaughters, Shalon Sanders of Topsham, Brandy Sanders of Lisbon Falls; his five grandchildren, Markis and Sabrina Larrivee, Emalee Sanders, Tristen Bouffard and Rylie Turcotte; a sister, Lilli and Theo Steltermann of Lancaster, N.Y.; three brothers, Karl and the late Eleanor Zernickel of Grand Island, N.Y., Paul and Sue Schein, Peter and Michele Schein, all of West Seneca, N.Y.; 10 nieces and nephews; 11 great-nieces and great-nephews.
