1938 – 2016

AUBURN — Joan M. Coombs, 77, of Sabattus passed away peacefully Thursday June 9, at the Hospice House in Auburn.

She was born in Concord, N.H., on Oct. 16, 1938, a daughter of the late Raymond T. and Albina (Donzey) Miner. She lived in Penacook, N.H., until the age of 5 and then moved to Lowell, Mass. She attended schools in both New Hampshire and Massachusetts. In 1976, she moved to Hampstead, N.H., and lived there until she moved to Maine in 2002. While in Hampstead, Joan had worked various jobs, including being a dental technician. She then started with Hampstead Pharmacy in 1980 and worked there before moving.

She will always be remembered for her love of oil painting, crocheting, working in her garden and mowing the lawn, baking and being outdoors, especially by the ocean.

She is survived by her two children, Debra L. Matchett-Plourde and her husband, Harold, of Lisbon Falls and David T. Coombs and his wife, Amanda, of Salem, N.H. She also leaves behind a brother, Arthur J. Miner of York; as well as two grandchildren, Jason D. and Chadd A. Matchett; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Mitchell R. Szettella; a sister, Pauline R. Cailler; and a niece, Denise Cailler.
