Paris garden receives grant
PARIS — Gardeners Growing Healthy Communities recently received a $6,400 grant from the Oxford County Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.
The grant will finance the construction of a walk-in cooler for vegetable and fruit storage at the new garden location on Route 26 in South Paris. GGHC will distribute the garden produce, along with donated fruits and vegetables, to families and individuals each week during the growing season.
“This grant will enable us to keep harvested produce fresh for our weekly distributions,” said Barbara Murphy, garden coordinator. “There is a very significant need for weekly, fresh produce in Oxford County. Currently 15.5 percent of the county is food insecure.”
