NORWAY — Geneva J. McCoy, 88, of Gilead passed away Monday, June 13, at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.

She was born in Limington on Oct. 28, 1927, a daughter of James and Eva (Carigan) Johnston. She was educated in Bethel schools. Following high school, Geneva attended hairdressing school and for many years, she owned and operated a beauty salon on Main Street in Bethel.

She lived in Gilead for many years and was a former member of the West Parish Congregational Church in Bethel, and most recently was a member of the Pleasant Valley Bible Church.

Geneva was an avid painter and artist and loved playing the guitar.

She married Samuel McCoy on Dec. 31, 1964. He died in 1992.

She is survived by a nephew, Leslie James Johnston Jr. and his wife, Tracy, of Deerfield, Mass.; three nieces, Elaine Beaudoin and her husband, Roy, of Turner Falls, Mass., Jean Cartledge and her husband, Robert, of Leeds, Mass., and Elizabeth Tozloski and her husband, Barre, of Sunderland, Mass.; and special friends, Tammy McDormand of Gilead, and Elaine and Jeff Hutchkins, also of Gilead.

Besides her husband, Geneva is predeceased by her brother, Leslie James Johnston Sr.; and her sister, Mabel Johnston Reynolds.
