LEWISTON — Republican voters in Androscoggin County have elected Joanna Said of Livermore as their candidate for Register of Probate in the fall election.
Said received 52.7 percent of the vote to defeat Leslie Dubois of Lewiston by 144 votes, 1,430-1,286.
The race was tight and Dubois maintained a 42-vote cushion late Tuesday night, but two of the three missing towns were Said’s home base of Livermore and Livermore Falls. Said won Livermore with a vote of 154-15, while Livermore Falls favored Said 73-11.
Sabattus, the other missing town, supported Dubois 79-64.
Said formerly served as Register of Probate in 2014 when she was appointed by Gov. Paul LePage to fill a vacancy until a special election could be held. In the 2014 special election, Said lost to Brian Bolduc, who resigned last fall.
Dubois is a former Lewiston city councilor who is married to Judge of Probate Michael Dubois.
Said will face Democrat Ira Bittues in the Nov. 8 fall election. Bittues ran unopposed in Tuesday’s primary.
