Hodsdon guest at Historical Society

MEXICO — Mexico Police Chief Roy Hodsdon will be the guest speaker at the Mexico Historical Society meeting on Monday, June 20, at the Wills Homestead Museum, 3 Oxford St.

The evening will begin with a potluck supper and a short business meeting at 5 p.m.

Hodsdon will speak at 6 p.m. Topics include neighborhood watch, senior watch and events occurring in local neighborhoods. A question-and-answer period will follow.

The meeting is free and open to the public. New members are welcome.

Good Shepherd Food Mobile in Industry

INDUSTRY — Clearwater Food Pantry will host the Good Shepherd Food Mobile from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, at the Town Hall parking lot.

Fresh produce and perishable/nonperishable items will be distributed to locals in need. Those from surrounding towns who need food assistance are welcome.

Those attending should bring bags and boxes for food.

Akers speaking at Into the Woods series

ANDOVER — The Mahoosuc Land Trust’s Into the Woods speaker series will continue at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, with Darlene Akers.

She will share her knowledge of local healing plants. She will also talk about United Plant Savers and visit some of the plants that are growing on and around the ski trails on the “at risk” and “to watch” lists.

The presentation will be at Akers barn. There will be an opportunity for a short midsummer walk in the woods to view some of the plants, so participants should wear outdoor footwear.

Fourth Thursday Poetry at RPL

RUMFORD — The monthly gathering of poetry lovers is set for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at the Rumford Public Library.

Fourth Thursday Poetry includes light refreshments, conversation and poetry sharing, either original or favorite works.

Daughters of Union Veterans meet

STONEHAM — The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Hannah F. Richardson Tent 19, held their monthly meeting on May 26 at the home of Marilyn Jones in Norway.

A memorial service was conducted for the group’s deceased members.

There will be no meeting in June.

The convention will be held Friday, June 24, in Waterville.

The next regular meeting will be Thursday, July 28, at a location to be announced later.

Beacon House hosting block party

RUMFORD — The Beacon House Learning Center and Social Club will hold a community block party from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, June 24, on Exchange Street.

There will be karaoke and a DJ, food and beverages, games for all ages, and contests with prizes for all ages.
