FARMINGTON — Gold LEAF Institute Senior College will introduce its summer term classes and activities at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at the Olsen Student Center’s North Dining Hall at the University of Maine at Farmington, 111 South St.

The annual meeting will include descriptions of courses followed by course registration. The event is free.

Gold LEAF is a member-run organization that promotes lifelong learning. Membership is open to anyone age 50 and older and their spouse/partner, regardless of age.

This term’s offerings include:

• weekly tai chi classes open to beginners as well as experienced practitioners;

• summer book group discussion of current fiction and nonfiction;

• a tour of a wind energy project;

• three-class presentation on the opera “La Boheme”;

• discussion group covering current events and politics;

• an introduction to emu farming, including a field trip to an emu farm;

• an introduction to the UMF Youth Outreach programs;

• computer workshop designed for seniors;

• an introduction to the Chinese language;

• a tour of sites overseen by the Maine Coast Heritage Trust;

• Monday morning kayak paddle trips on area lakes and ponds;

• knitting for fun;

• a class on Mormonism and the Mormon Missionary;

• an explanation of ranked-choice voting;

• a nature walk at Foothills Preserve;

• a presentation by L.E.A.P. on accessibility;

• a workshop on growing garlic;

• a craft workshop on card-making;

• participation on the annual Source to the Sea kayak trip;

• a photography workshop with a field trip;

• a trip to the Maine State Music Theater production of “Mamma Mia!”;

• and a summer social and get together.
