Free state park admission

AUGUSTA — Maine State Parks and Historic Sites will treat Maine residents to a free day-use admission on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 19.

Maine residents will be recognized for their continued support of Maine State Parks and Historic Sites with free-admission for the day according to Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry’s Bureau of Parks and Lands.

All Maine residents will be allowed free day-use entrance to Maine State Parks and Historic Sites from 9 a.m. until the park’s closing on Sunday, June 19. No rain date will be available. The open admission does not apply to Acadia National Park, the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, Baxter State Park, the Maine Wildlife Park, Peacock Beach, Scarborough Beach, Swan Island, Penobscot River Corridor or the Penobscot Narrows Observatory in Prospect, though admission to Fort Knox State Historic Site will be free that day.

UMA ‘Admit in a Day’

AUGUSTA — The University of Maine at Augusta is hosting an Admit in a Day event from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at the Fireplace Lounge of the Richard Randall Student Center on its Augusta Campus.

The event is an opportunity for prospective students to apply and be accepted into one of UMA’s degree programs right on the spot, which includes a wavier of the normal $40 application fee.

Prospective students will need to come to the event prepared with required paperwork including, high school or GED transcripts, immunization records, 2015 federal tax forms and W-2 forms.

Admissions counselors, financial aid experts, and academic advisers from the University will be on hand to help students choose the right academic path, decide on a financial plan and get started on their academic schedule.

Lewiston bridge club lists results

OXFORD — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners of the special Unit Championship on June 13 were, first/second tie, Nancy Lindgren and Bill Clifford with Dick Allen and Richard Balian; and third/fourth tie, Marta Clements and Pete Cummings with Donna Bartlett and Claire Lyons.

Winners of the Unit Championship on June 14 were, first, Nancy Farmer and Roger Labbe; second, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; third, Marta Clements and Claire Lyons; and, fourth, Pat Garcia and David Lock.

There will not be a game played on Monday because all social and duplicate bridge players will play in the annual Alzheimer’s bridge games at the Oxford Bridge Club. The event begins at 9 a.m. Monday, June, 20, on King Street, Oxford. Refreshments will be served before the second game at 1:30 p.m. and before the 6:30 p.m. session. Prizes will be given to all winners in each event. A partner will be available for each session.

The 9 a.m. Tuesday game at the Lewiston Armory will be a North American Open Pairs qualifying event.
