1928 – 2016
GREENE — Roger R. Sirois of Greene passed away Friday, June 17. He is at peace in Heaven after a long and interesting life here on Earth.
He was born in Lewiston on Jan. 13, 1928. Roger was a son of Henry J. and Euphemie Caron Sirois. Growing up, he attended Garcelon Elementary, St. Peter’s, Holy Family, Frye School, Jordan and Lewiston High School. Roger played baseball, basketball and football. He graduated from high school in 1946, served two years in the U.S. Navy, attended one year at the University of Maine, and received his college degree after three years from the University of Toledo.
Roger’s teaching experience included Hartland Academy, Lisbon Elementary, and Montello Elementary and Lewiston High School. He coached junior varsity basketball at Montello, driver’s education at Lewiston High School, and started the physical education program for Lewiston elementary schools. During the summer, Roger owned and operated a Mario’s in Naples and the Bridgton Lobster Pound.
Roger enjoyed golf (winning two tournament trophies), officiating and coaching sports, and camping and gardening. Roger had a large garden in Greene for a number of years. Friends and neighbors looked forward to the veggies he put on the stand every year. (He would only accept donations toward supplies as payment.) His son Jeff helped him when gardening became more difficult for Roger. Roger also attended a weekly Grace Bible Study and East Auburn Baptist Church.
Roger is survived by his wife of 32 years, Martha Perham Sirois of Greene, whom he married Aug. 25, 1983; his daughter, Linda Tiblier of Florida; two sons, Roger “Joe” Sirois and Jeff Sirois of Lewiston; one stepdaughter, Sharon Pond and husband, Mike, of Greene; two stepsons, Michael Gibbs and wife, Susan, of Greene and Jim Gibbs and wife, Aimee, of Turner; a sister, Lorraine Bennett and husband, Arthur, of North Yarmouth; a brother, Dr. Raymond Sirois and wife, Claudette, of Auburn; and sister-in-law, Joyce Sirois of Boothbay. His grandchildren include Trey, Christian, Davis, Sean, Brooke, J.T., Kathryn, Evan, Raymond, Noah, Jacob, Matthew, Seth and Sabella. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Marcelle Demers, and husband, Bert; a brother, Henry “Joe” Sirois; Louise (mother of Roger’s three children); and son-in-law, Jerry Tiblier.
