Sanborn River hike June 25

GREENWOOD — The Mahoosuc Land Trust will lead hikes for multiple abilities at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 25.

The an easier hike is a 3-mile route along the Sanborn River where there are lots of spots to stop and play in the water.

The 7-mile route will follow the river, then go around Oversett Pond and return to the river.

A picnic will follow the hikes, and participants should bring a picnic lunch.

Hikers should wear sturdy footwear and bring water, sunscreen and insect repellant.

The trailhead can be reached by turning onto the Greenwood Road off Route 26 and Howe Hill Road in Locke Mills and traveling about 7 miles south; then by turning right onto Patch Mountain Road; and a slight right after a half-mile onto Willis Mills Road where there’ll be a parking lot on the left.

Historical Society yard sale

OXFORD — The Oxford Historical Society will its annual yard and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at 73 Pleasant St.

The society will be accepting donations to sale. 

Summer Nordic Program registration

RUMFORD — The Chisholm Ski Club is offering its Summer Nordic Program from Monday, June 27, to Aug. 18.

The program is open to those ages 10 to 18 who like cross-country skiing.

The program offers drills, challenges, games and adventures. Experience includes goofy drills at Hosmer Field and hiking Tumbledown. There will a focus on skill development and fitness.

Those with planned vacations should communicate to the instructor the dates they will be gone ahead of their departure.

Farmington Historical Society to meet

FARMINGTON — The Farmington Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, June 27, at 118 High St. 

Art Ray will present“The Rise and Fall of the Narrow Gauge Railroad.” Everyone is welcome.

The meeting will follow a potluck dinner.

Son’s of Italy to meet

RUMFORD — The Son’s of Italy will hold their regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 27, at the hall on Route 108.

The meeting will be followed by a light lunch.

Summer food program begins June 27

FARMINGTON — Regional School Unit 9 will serve free lunches for children 17 and younger beginning Monday, June 27, through July 28.

Meals will not be served July 4 or July 21.

There are no income requirements or registration necessary to participate in the summer food program.

W.G. Mallett School, 116 Middle St., and Cascade Brook Middle School, 162 Learning Lane, will both serve Monday through Thursday. Breakfast is from 9 to 9:20 a.m., and lunch from noon to 12:20 p.m.

Bjorn Park, at the corner of High Street and Route 2, will serve lunch Monday through Friday from noon to 12:20 p.m.

Indepence Day in Farmington 

FARMINGTON — Fireworks and a chicken barbecue will highlight the start of the July 4th celebration in Farmington.

Members of Farmington Fire and Rescue will serve their annual chicken barbecue starting at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 3, at the Narrow Gauge Square off Front Street. Fireworks start at dusk over Prescott Field.

There are 300 meals available for $9 per dinner. Reservations for the barbecue must be made no later than July 1.
