1919 – 2016

FARMINGTON — Margaret McLeary, 96, of Orchard Park, Farmington, formerly of Wilton, died Monday, June 20, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 30, 1919, in Haverhill, Mass., and adopted by Danie and Pearl (Wilder) Pickens. She received her education in local schools and in 1951 married Phillip H. McLeary. She worked for more than 40 years at Riverside Greenhouse in Farmington and was a devoted homemaker, taking impeccable care of her husband who had a long debilitating struggle with Alzheimer’s.

She was a member of the Wilton UCC since 1948 and was a faithful choir member, often accompanying the choir on the piano. She collected teddy bears, the significance of which paralleled her kind, soft-hearted, compassionate temperament.

She is survived by her son, Thomas McLeary of Wilton; her grandson, Thomas Bubier of Perryand his former companion, Lois Soctomah, of Pleasant Point; a great-grandson, Toms H. Bubier and her grandson’s siblings, whom she thought of as her own, Ervins Bubier of Perry and Janice Ritchie of Calais.

She was predeceased by her brother, Danie Pickens, who died in 1963.
