RUMFORD — Faylene A. Austin, 81, of Rumford passed away on Tuesday, June 21.
She was born in Rumford on May 20, 1935, the daughter of George Locke and Theresa Knauer. Faylene attended local schools. She married John (Jerry) Austin on April 20, 1952. He predeceased her July 3, 1997. Faylene was a waitress, manager and owner of local restaurants. Her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother.
In her later years, she played Canasta with friends and family, jigsaw puzzles and on the computer. Faylene was a caregiver for the entire family.
She leaves behind a daughter, Cynthia Canterbury and husband, Earl, of Pensacola, Fla., three sons; Preston Austin and wife, Diane, of Mexico, Gregory Austin of Weld, and Stephen Austin of Carthage; eight grandchildren, Sandra Dickie and husband, Troy, Melissa Campbell, Eric Austin and companion, Carrie, Todd Austin and wife, Kendra, Preston Austin Jr., Chelsea Austin, Cassidy Austin and Cody Austin; seven great-grandchildren, Jared Dickie, Sydnee VanHorn, Ian Austin, Caleb Austin, Brooke Austin, Bailey Faye Austin and Eloise Jackman; brothers, Gerald Locke and wife, Shirley, of Saco., George Locke of Mastic, N.Y., Jon Locke and wife, Jane, of Chelmsford, Mass., Peter Waznis and wife, Joanne, of Hamden, Conn.; sisters, Dorothea Cayer and husband, Fernand, of Rumford, Melissa Blaisdell of Lewiston; brother-in-law, Richard Austin; many nieces and nephews; and a dear friend of 70 years, Ellen Stacey.
Faylene was predeceased by her husband, John; her brother, James Waznis; and her sister, Susan Marcoux.
