1929 – 2016

AUBURN — Richard Earl Harriman passed away Tuesday, June 21, of natural causes at Clover Manor in Auburn.

Richard “Harry” Harriman was born April 16, 1929, in Camden, graduated from Lewiston High School in 1947 and served in the U.S. Navy. Upon discharge, he made use of the GI bill and went to work at Commerce Die Co. in Auburn.

He married his high school sweetheart, Mildred “Millie” Keene, on Dec. 9, 1950, and they settled in Lewiston. He worked for Commerce Die Co. for almost 30 years until it was purchased by the Auburn Die Co. He then went to work for Auburn Die Co., retiring in 1995. For 50 years, he and his wife Millie spent most of every summer in Small Point, first at Hermit Island Campground and later at Head Beach Campground, where they met and enjoyed many friends from all around the state and New England. In the past few years, he and Millie have resided at Montello Heights in Lewiston and most recently at Clover Manor in Auburn.

Dad will be remembered for being able to craft almost anything he put his mind to. He was very well-informed and never shy about sharing his opinions. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family camping in Small Point.

Harry is survived by his wife, Millie; his brother, David of Durham, N.C.; his sister, Shirley Herrick of Auburn; his two children, Gary Harriman of New Gloucester, and Wendy Dostie of Winthrop; five grandchildren, Josephine Harriman, Jerromey George, Jesse George, Spencer Harriman and Aja Dostie; and two great-grandchildren, Aurora and Zander.

He was predeceased by his parents, Jesse and Mabel Harriman; and his brother, Gerald Harriman.

The family wishes to thank the staffs at both Montello Manor and Clover Manor for their time and patience when caring for Richard. He wasn’t always the most cooperative patient, but they always treated him with kindness and respect.
