SANBORTON, N.H. — Mrs. Alice Ashworth, 78, died Sunday, June 26, in Sanbornton, N.H. She was formerly of Peru.
Born in New Bedford, Mass., on Oct. 26, 1937, Alice was a daughter of Harry and Alice (Knight) Lowe. She graduated from New Bedford High School in 1955.
Alice sang in church choirs since she was 10 years old. She was the organ and pianist for the Mexico Congregational Church and the Dixfield Congregational Church. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, baking, cooking and hymn songs and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Alice was program director for the GRCC Senior Citizens Center throughout the 1970s. During her husband’s calling at the Mexico Congregational Church, she coordinated and served all of the Rotary luncheons to help the finances of the church from 1983 until his retirement. She founded GRAMPS food cupboard at the Mexico Congregational Church (Green Church). She was named “Citizen of The Year” for the town of Mexico.
Alice was married in New Bedford, Mass., on Feb. 23, 1957, to the Rev. Ronald Ashworth who died in Peru on Oct. 27, 2010.
Survivors include her four daughters, Karen Miller of Cincinnati, Ohio, Bonnie Ashworth and wife, Paula, of Sanbornton, N.H., Sherry Spencer and her husband, Ken of Martinez, Ga., and Heidi Arsenault and her husband, Roland, of Mexico; a sister, Ruth Santos of Buzzards Bay, Mass.; grandchildren, Kristopher Miller, Kayla Miller, David Spencer, Kirsten Gross, Jacob Arsenault and Kelsey Arsenault; great-grandchildren, Kathryn Shealy and Levi Spencer.
