1925 – 2016
WEST PARIS — Priscilla J. Thurlow, 91, passed away Monday, June 20, at Ledgeview Living Center where she had been a resident for three years.
She was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Lewiston, the daughter of Lawrence and Florence Brett of Welchville. Priscilla graduated from Oxford High School in 1942 and Pelletier School of Beauty in 1943.
She was a beautician for many years, starting on Main Street, Norway, and later working out of her home in Oxford. Priscilla started driving the school bus for the town of Oxford in 1948. She continued driving for the Oxford Hills School District, retiring in 1998 after 50 years of service.
Priscilla married Evan Thurlow on Nov. 10, 1946. They spent 69 wonderful years on the family farm on Pigeon Hill. She was a member of the Oxford County Extension, a trustee of the Freeland Holmes Library, and a member of the Rock-O-Dundee Riders Snowmobile Club since its inception in 1973.
She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Priscilla could often be found in her kitchen and was well-known for her delicious pies and biscuits. At other times she would be knitting, crocheting or sewing. She loved taking day trips in the car and always had a Gazetteer in her lap.
She is survived by her loving husband, Evan Thurlow; daughters, Suzanne Hall and Sandra Roderick and her husband, Stephen; grandchildren, Sara Roderick and fiance, John Lavertu, Sonya Roderick Locke and her husband, William, Brian Hall, Marcia Hall and her partner, Glenn Mason, and Laurie Huff and her husband, Scott; great-grandchildren, Shawn Morse and Anna and Emily Huff; sister-in-law, Alberta Harlow and husband, Robert; cousin, Mary Brett; and nieces and nephews.
Priscilla was predeceased by her parents; her only sibling, Charlotte Brett Irwin; her husband, William; and her son-in-law, Leslie Hall.
