The public is invited to Join Mahoosuc Land Trust and Androscoggin River Watershed Council to celebrate the dedication of Hastings Landing boat launch in Rumford Center. Hastings Landing provides hand carry boat access to the Androscoggin River and is located on US Route 2 in Rumford Center Village.

The celebration begins at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 17 and coincides with the Watershed Council’s “Source to Sea Trek” paddle from Hanover to Rumford. Paddlers can start in Hanover, stop at Hastings Landing or use Hastings Landing to begin their trek.

Hastings Landing is named in honor of Anne Hastings Morton. Her brother, Sonny Hastings, known for his prowess in winning many canoe races in our area, was enthusiastic to kick off the fundraising effort for the Landing to honor his sister.

The dedication will honor the many donors and volunteers who helped the Land Trust and Watershed Council make the project possible. In addition, the Maine Water Access Fund, Quimby Family Foundation and L.L. Bean Land Trust Grant Program all provided financial support for the project.

The Androscoggin River Trail is a series of public boat landings that provides public access to the river. Sites are situated a few miles apart giving local residents and visitors the opportunity for short or long paddling trips on the river. The vision behind the series of landings is to provide local families with paddling opportunities at the end of a workday.

Refreshments following the ribbon cutting.
