The reconstruction of the bridge over the Maine Central tracks at Bridge Street, Lewiston, was begun yesterday by a crew of men from the Maine Central, who are doing the work for the city of Lewiston. The new bridge is of metal and of the overhead type. It was formerly in use at Bancroft. The bridge was sold by the railroad to the city and is being erected by the railroad. It is of practically the same dimensions and the abutments for the old bridge will serve for the new, the only change necessary being in the capstone.

(Photo Caption) EXCHANGE HOTEL BEING RAZED — One of Lewiston’s oldest hotels, The Exchange, is rapidly becoming a memory. The four-story frame structure was gutted in a fire several weeks ago. Razing of the edifice is expected to continue a few more days. The work is being done by the firm of E. W. Morin of Auburn. An official of the B. Peck Realty Company, which owns the property, said after the hotel’s demolition the 75- by 100-foot tract may be used as a parking area temporarily.

The SAD 15 school restructuring project, which has been in planning stages since last November, had its public debut Wednesday night at Stimson Hall following the regular SAD 15 board of directors meeting. The project, conceived as a four-year process of study, goal-setting, redesigning, and implementation, is intended to rely on the input and direction of community members. A call earlier this summer for volunteers to host neighborhood informational meetings in private homes met with little response from the public, however, so the initial information meetings were changed to the public event at Stimson Hall, broadcast over public access television.
