AUGUSTA — Maine residents and law enforcement officers have offered prayers and words of support for the police officers killed and injured by a Dallas sniper during a protest march.

Maine Warden Service chaplain Kate Braestrup told the gathering Friday that she’d met two of the officers who were shot when she attended a conference in Dallas last year. One of them died in Thursday’s shooting; the other was wounded.

Centralmaine.com reports that ministers offered prayers for the Dallas officers and their families. Local and state politicians also were present along with officers representing a half dozen local departments.

Gov. Paul LePage Friday called the attack that killed the officers the “epitome of evil.”

The protest in Dallas followed the fatal shooting of black men by police in Louisiana and Minnesota.
