FARMINGTON — It’s time to nominate a gem in the community.
Nominations for the 2016 Farmington Gem Award are being accepted until 4 p.m. Monday, July 18, said Ron Gelinas of Mainestone Jewelry.
Gelinas started the annual award “to recognize people that have contributed to the town of Farmington over the years,” he said. “Those who went above and beyond the call of duty, contributing to the town as a whole.”
It will be presented on Saturday, July 23, during Summer Fest.
Previous winners were Paul Mills, Richard and Judy Bjorn, Emily Floyd, Darlene Mooar, Patricia Hayden and the Rev. Scott Planting.
According to nomination papers, the award is presented to a chosen individual “who exemplified the following facets of life: commitment, dedication, time, service, compassion, empathy and love for the people and the town of Farmington, Maine.”
Nomination papers are available at Mainestone Jewelry and Minikins but need to be returned to Mainestone by July 18. This allows time to choose the winner and have the name engraved on a plaque. Nomination papers may also be downloaded at www.mainstonejewelry.com.
