TURNER — The Bear Pond Improvement Association will sponsor Bear Pond Community Fun Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23. Event will be held at the boat launch area at 65 Berry Road.
Games and activities are planned throughout the day. Lunch will be provided free to all attendees from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Game Warden Dave Chabot of the Maine Warden Service will speak at 12:30 p.m. His K-9 will accompany him during his talk. There will be a question-and-answer session.
Members of the Turner Museum and Historical Association will have artifacts, pictures and stories about the history of Bear Pond Park and the neighborhood. Copies of “Bear Pond Park Memories” will be for sale to benefit the Turner Museum.
Bear Pond Improvement Association’s annual dues of $25 for 2016 can be paid on Fun Day at the membership table.
Those attending should plan to bring their own chairs. Cottage owners are encouraged to arrive by boat, if possible. No alcohol, swimming, or dogs are allowed at the Bear Pond Community Fun Day.
Two other events are planned to coincide with Bear Pond Community Fun Day.
A two-weekend fishing derby for youths ages 15 and younger will be held Saturday and Sunday, July 16 and 17, and Friday, July 22, through noon on July 23 on Big and Little Bear ponds. Any fish caught may be brought to Kent Mitchell, 41 Jones Road, Little Bear Pond, 207-778-1445, for measurement and photo. Trophies will be awarded at Fun Day. Catch and release is encouraged, if possible.
A newly designed poker run is scheduled for Friday evening, July 22, with the final card available for purchase at Fun Day. Contact Pete Angell at 207-225-3737 for information on the poker run.
BPIA is a volunteer-based nonprofit organization of nearly 150 member families whose purpose is to oversee the well-being of Big Bear and Little Bear ponds and the surrounding watershed in Turner and Hartford. Its goals are to maintain the health and beauty of Bear Pond for the benefit of all humans and wildlife residents.
